Coach Hunt
Coach Hunt will return for another round in July, 2022!

Please check all email inboxes, including spam, in case a coach reaches out past the advertised dates. We will try to match as many mentees as we can! And if you didn't get a coach this round, there's always next round. Hopefully you found some friends through pitching, and at the very least, you're officially experienced for the big league pitching events with agents and editors.
What is #CoachHunt?
Coach Hunt is a tri-yearly event that takes place in March, July, and November each year. Writers pitch their story ideas on Twitter (or Google Forms if preferred), and coaches reach out to writers if they are interested in their story and want to mentor them.
The event is set up similar to official pitching events such as #PitMad and is a great way for young writers to practice pitching for the larger events with agents and publishers involved.
What is a coach?
A writing coach for TDWS is someone who is available to their mentee for brainstorming, feedback, and guidance on the creative side of storytelling.
A coach is NOT a beta reader, critique partner, editor, or publishing consultant. (You can reach out to us on the contact page if you would like help finding resources for those other services!)
Coaches take on 1-3 mentees every season of CoachHunt. Depending on the coach-mentee relationship, this could be a short term mentorship to help writers get going with their current projects, or it could be an indefinite relationship for years to come.
If you are interested in applying as a coach and are able to dedicate 2 hours maximum each week to this program, please apply! Coaches must be 16+ to apply with writing experience.
What does a writer need to get a coach?
If you are a potential mentee who would like to work with one of our coaches, please make sure you have the following:
-
Bare minimum—a plot/outline for your story.
-
A pitch for your story! (Has to be less than 280 characters to fit in a Twitter tweet.)
-
A willing attitude to be coached and receive feedback.
If your story is a complete, finalized draft, a coach might not be the right service for you. Coaches are here to help with the creative side of storytelling, not beta read your entire manuscript or edit it for you. You can reach out on our contact page if you need help finding resources for these other services.
Additionally, if you feel you need a space to talk about your story and get accountability, not necessarily criticism from a coach, you can join our Discord!
Lastly, we try to prepare as many coaches as we can for each event, but their spaces are limited. Keep in mind that just because you pitch, you are not guaranteed a coach. If you do not get one this season, you can always apply to group chats or wait until the next season! But don’t let this deter you from pitching. Pitching is great practice in itself, and you might find other writers during the event that you can connect with.
